The History

Founded by Dena Drews and Ernie Pink in 1999, Amalie Robert Estate has grown from humble beginnings as a cherry orchard into an established vineyard supplying fruit to some of the best Pinot noir wineries in the Northwest.  Amalie Robert Estate has had the benefit of working with some of Oregon’s most recognized winemakers.  Over the years, Ernie and Dena have enjoyed the guidance and inspiration from Adam Campbell, Barney Watson, Dick Erath, Mike Etzel, Steve Doerner, and others to pursue the vineyard’s full potential.

Entering its 11th Leaf, (growing season) in 2010, the vineyard has produced low yields of Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot meunier, Syrah and Viognier.  Amalie Robert Estate continues to supply Pinot noir fruit to Cristom Vineyards.

The Vineyard

Amalie Robert Estate is situated approximately 15 miles southwest of Salem in the sedimentary hills of Dallas, Oregon. The vineyard is blessed with Bellpine soil, a silty clay loam providing the ideal profile for Pinot noir.  Geologically speaking, the Bellpine series soils are some of the oldest soils in the entire Willamette Valley.  The dry-farmed, turn of the century vineyard is currently covers about 30 acres (42,442 vines), with anticipated plantings totaling about 40 acres.  These 30 acres are divided into 34 blocks to capture specific micro-climates and soil variability.

  • The vineyard is predominantly south facing, elevation ranges from 275 – 650 feet above sea level
  • Bellpine is a moderately deep, well drained soil formed from weathered sedimentary bedrock
  • Vines are spaced 7.5’ x 4’ providing 1,452 vines per acre
  • Trellising:  Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) Single cane
